Last Wednesday saw the final round of the four race series, with a full field which included the Deal Tri Squad club championships. Going into this race, Phil Anthony of Deal had a 45 second lead over Trisport Epping's Kevin Partridge. An exciting race was therefore guaranteed. From the swim and bike exits, Kevin had a few seconds lead over Phil, just behind Asics Multisports' Simon Truett. Kevin then ran superbly well to pass Simon and hold off all comers to win by 22 seconds. A superb result, but 23 seconds short of winning the series. Phil Anthony came home second with Simon third, and therefore secured the series win.
A record number of ladies and novices took part and the ladies race was dominated by Sarah Philpot of Deal, who held off series winner Tracey Waring by 29 seconds.
The entire race was a success with an even greater achievement in the form of Dokter Zex (Steve Clark - Asics Multisport) who, 72 hours earlier had just finished the run at the Longest Day Ironman in Wolverhampton. Surprisingly, despite a broken spoke on the bike, managed to finish a credible 18th in 56 minutes dead. This included his best run time for the course!! The BBQ that followed rounded off a great nights' racing, thanks to Roger and Maggie Horne.
Well done to all competitors, especially the Deal "first home" Kris Saxby, their first Vet Ian Pettitt and first overall Lady, Sarah Philpot.
